camera iphone 8 plus apk Allman - FGCU Herpetology Research Lab - Delnor-Wiggins SP - Nesting Gopher Tortoise

This video was recorded as part of a long-term ecological study on gopher tortoises in southwest Florida by Dr. Phil Allman from Florida Gulf Coast University.

The tortoise was first observed at the entrance of a burrow; one that still contains debris from Hurricane Irma (September 2017).

Close examination indicated the tortoise was digging an egg chamber for nesting. We observed the tortoise dig the egg chamber, deposit eggs, and complete the covering process.

We also observed a black racer moving around the burrow as she dug the egg chamber. The racer eventually crawled into the burrow and was not observed again.
